The C6 generation tightened the Corvette's dimensions, brought back exposed headlights for the first time since 1962 and steadily added power. Base cars moved from the 400-horsepower 6.0-liter LS2 to the 430-horsepower 6.2-liter LS3 for 2008. The Z06, sold from 2006, used an aluminum frame and the 7.0-liter, 505-horsepower LS7. The ZR1, from 2009, added a supercharged 6.2-liter LS9 with 638 horsepower, carbon-ceramic brakes and carbon-fiber body panels. The Grand Sport and the 2013 427 Convertible filled the gaps between them.
