The G-Class began as a military off-roader in 1979 and was sold officially in the US from 2002. This generation keeps the original recipe: a ladder frame, solid axles and three locking differentials under a body assembled largely by hand in Graz, Austria. AMG versions put big V8 power in that shape; the G 63 AMG arrived for 2013 with a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 and side-exit exhausts. A fully redesigned G-Class replaced it for 2019.
