The first Cayenne took Porsche into SUVs for 2003 and quickly became its best-selling model. Developed alongside the Volkswagen Touareg, it had real off-road hardware, including a low-range transfer case and available air suspension, with engines from a V6 up to the twin-turbocharged V8 of the Turbo. A 2008 update brought direct-injected engines and revised styling. Its success is widely credited with funding the sports cars that followed.
