From 1974 to 1989 the 911 wore the impact bumpers that define the G-series cars, while its air-cooled flat-six grew from 2.7 liters through the 3.0-liter SC to the 3.2 Carrera. These are the cars many people picture as the classic 911: torsion-bar suspension, a rear-mounted engine and compact dimensions. Because they are simple and well supported, they are also popular bases for modification, including backdating to the look of the earlier long-hood cars.
