Porsche presented the 964 as 85 percent new: coil springs in place of torsion bars, power steering, ABS, and a 3.6-liter air-cooled flat-six with twin-spark ignition. It introduced all-wheel drive to the 911 with the Carrera 4, alongside the rear-drive Carrera 2, and a rear spoiler that rises automatically at speed. It kept the classic 911 silhouette while modernizing nearly everything beneath it.
