The 996 was the first water-cooled 911 and the first all-new 911 body since the original, sharing its front structure and headlights with the Boxster. Carrera models began with a 3.4-liter flat-six and moved to 3.6 liters with the 2002 update, which also revised the headlights. The range grew to include the Carrera 4, the wide-body 4S, the Targa, the Turbo and the first GT3.
